Cafe Rafaele is a cozy and charming cafe located at 19 Havelock Ave, Coogee NSW 2034, Australia. Nestled in one of Sydney’s most vibrant neighborhoods, this cafe has earned a reputation for its inviting atmosphere, friendly service, and exceptional menu. Whether you’re popping in for a morning coffee or a casual brunch, Cafe Rafaele offers a perfect blend of local flavor and international flair.

From the moment you step through the door, the warm, rustic decor sets the tone for a laid-back experience. The interior is simple yet sophisticated, with wooden tables, comfortable seating, and plenty of natural light streaming in through the large windows. It’s the kind of place where you can relax and feel right at home, whether you’re on your own or catching up with friends.

When it comes to food, Cafe Rafaele offers a delightful range of options to suit all tastes. For breakfast, their smashed avocado on sourdough toast is a local favorite, perfectly paired with a poached egg and a sprinkle of feta cheese. It’s a classic dish, but done exceptionally well. For those who prefer something heartier, the cafe’s signature ricotta pancakes topped with fresh berries and maple syrup are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The lunch menu is equally impressive, featuring an array of sandwiches, salads, and hearty bowls. The grilled chicken and avocado salad is a popular choice, combining fresh greens, tangy feta, and tender chicken breast for a light yet filling meal. Alternatively, you can opt for a comforting bowl of pumpkin soup with a side of freshly baked bread. No matter what you choose, you’re guaranteed a dish that’s bursting with flavor.

Cafe Rafaele doesn’t just excel at food; their drinks menu is equally noteworthy. The coffee here is exceptional, with a smooth, rich flavor that coffee lovers rave about. Whether you prefer a classic flat white or an iced latte, you can expect your drink to be made with care and precision. For those who aren’t in the mood for coffee, the cafe offers a variety of fresh juices and herbal teas, perfect for a refreshing pick-me-up.

The friendly and attentive staff make every visit feel personal and welcoming. Many patrons return not just for the delicious food but also for the exceptional service. It’s clear that the team at Cafe Rafaele takes pride in providing a memorable experience for each guest, from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave.

Located just a short stroll from Coogee Beach, Cafe Rafaele is also a fantastic spot to relax after a day in the sun. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely breakfast or a light lunch, the cafe’s laid-back vibe perfectly complements the relaxed coastal atmosphere. The cafe’s prime location makes it a go-to destination for both locals and visitors, especially those looking to enjoy a quiet meal away from the bustling crowds.

One of the best aspects of Cafe Rafaele is its commitment to using locally sourced ingredients. By supporting local farmers and suppliers, the cafe ensures that every dish is fresh and of the highest quality. This focus on sustainability not only enhances the flavor of each meal but also makes the dining experience feel even more special.

If you’re in the mood for something light and refreshing, the cafe’s smoothie bowls are a must-try. Packed with fresh fruit, granola, and a drizzle of honey, these bowls are not only delicious but also Instagram-worthy. For those who prefer a more indulgent treat, the selection of cakes and pastries, including a rich chocolate brownie and buttery croissants, is sure to satisfy.

In terms of pricing, Cafe Rafaele offers good value for money, especially considering the quality of the food and the inviting atmosphere. While it’s not the cheapest option in the area, it’s well worth the visit for a special treat or a casual meal with friends. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick coffee or lingering over a long lunch, Cafe Rafaele offers an experience that’s hard to beat in Coogee.

All in all, Cafe Rafaele has everything you could ask for in a neighborhood cafe: great food, excellent coffee, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s a spot that’s sure to become a favorite.

  • What an unassuming spot in Coogee! We walked in as a group for brunch and loved the experience. The service was nice, the setting was chill and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend for those who are looking for a good, quieter spot in Coogee.

  • Lovely low-key brunch for my Dad’s birthday. The food (and coffee) tastes even better than it looks! Perfect local cafe vibe.

  • I found the staff really friendly and welcoming. I just got a simple baguette that was pre-prepared & it was delicious, heated up perfectly. I look forward to trying something on the menu.

  • What an absolute gem at Coogee beach. French inspired and absolutely delicious. Great coffee and the food has a care and authenticity to it, which is very tough to find. Here's a tip, try the lemon and sugar crepes.. Excellent staff and can't wait to come back!

  • Have often been here for brunch and the food is always fantastic, my favourite is the mushrooms on schiacciatta with the amazing porcini mayo/sauce. We tried dinner for the first time and had the delicious steak frites, the miso butter is a wonderful addition, highly recommend! Update July 2025: We've just been back for the $50 3 course set menu, with our newborn baby. The waitress was lovely and we felt so comfortable, no one got annoyed when our bub made a bit of noise. The kitchen staff were very accommodating and we think it's great deal for $50 (raddicchio, blue cheese and pear salad, steak frites and crepes Suzette) Lovely place, nice atmosphere on a cold winter's night and friendly staff.

  • Came here on a Sunday with my wife and 1yo. Just tucked away far enough from the main beach and thoroughfare that it was not too busy or loud, might be different in a weekday though? We ordered some bevvies, a salmon bagel the ham and egg thingy. Both tasty as. Got a coffee to go for the drive ahead and it was really good too. Service was good, staff were friendly. Would definitely come back again.

  • Cafe Rafaele is a quaint little cafe with great coffee and bistro style french food. I would recommend the Fish du Jour, super tender poached salmon topped with a zingy and fresh cucumber, fennel, rocket salad. It’s a bit more on the pricey side, but well worth it as the quality of food shows for it. Definitely would recommend and would come back to try their croque monsieur and steak frites.
